and for this one we’re time travelling to the winter of 1854!

even though its not an invention you can physically grasp, i would say that Florence’s dedication to modernising healthcare fits right with the other inventions that changed the world. as a child Florence knew the only thing she wanted to do, and was meant for, was to care for others in need. and even when everyone around her told her not to take that voyage to Crimea, she went anyway on October 21st 1854 together with 38 women, and changed how we handle healthcare forever.

and she not only revolutionised healthcare, she was also a beacon of light for these soldiers who truly thought their final hours had come. this is exactly what i hope the song tells too. the darkness, the fear, but also her being this powerful presence who saves them.

very proud of this one :’) the storytelling is by far the most powerful part of the song, within the lyrics but also within the amazing production by @remycoopermusic

PS. fun fact abt the cover art: the song is written from the perspective of one of the soldiers and so the text on the cover art is a “letter”, written by me as one of the soldiers, thanking her for her service (inspired by the piece William Russel wrote about her in the Times during the war)

two weeks until ‘lady with the lamp’!!🕯️

i wrote this song from the perspective of a soldier looking back at the Crimean War. i did this because i was inspired by a poem i found, which was written a few years after:

Lo! in that house of misery A lady with a lamp I see Pass through the glimmering gloom, And flit from room to room.

i really liked this idea of her being this beacon of light for these hopeless soldiers, and i think its also a theme we still can relate to today: having someone as your beacon of light during dark and difficult times

i cant wait for you guys to hear this one! its so different than the other ones, but im very proud of it :)

last year in november i went to london (ofc ofc) and at that moment i already knew i wanted to make a song about the lady with the lamp aka Florence Nightingale, who defied the odds and saved thousands during the Crimean War in the 1850’s, but also laid the groundwork for modern healthcare

so ofc i had to take a pic w her :)
